One of my favourite writers is Julio Cortazar, he in a french- argentinian writer born in Belgium in 1914. He was born in belgium and lived there until the age of four when his family moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina. The interesting thing about his work are his short stories and the poetic prose. He plays with time and in his stories the time is no linear, it reminds surrealism and magic realism. Another characteristic is the way Cortazar finishes his short stories, it begins in a way and finishes in unexpected ways; like in "La noche boca arriba" you start reading about a person from our time who had an accident on his motorcycle and in the hospital start to dream about an ancient azteca who is fighting in the "guerras floridas" and in the end you discover that who is really having the dream is not the motocyclist, is the aztecan warrior! Or the "Continuidad de los parques" here the character is reading a book and at the end appears de character from the book and caught him. He can weave different layers in his stories making an extraordinary fantastic and mysterious world full of poetry.
My favorite books are "Bestiario" and "Todos los fuegos el fuego", here are short stories and "Rayuela" that is a novel, and a very interesting one: you can read it in at least two different ways, in the normal one from page one to the last or in an different order thar the author propose in the beginning of the book; in this novel you can find a mix between the story of the love of Horacio and la maga in Paris, articles about music, literature, make up languages, and the storie of Horacio in Argentina, and in the end is all mixed up.
Cortazar also liked jazz very much.
Rayuela, is like the anti-novel. Very interesting his works.
